Athletic Club kick off pre-season with victory

The Lionesses beat CDE Rácing Féminas in the first test of the season and David Aznar's debut at the helm of the team

First preparation match for Athletic Club, who beat CDE Rácing Féminas 5-1 in Gazituaga (Zamudio) thanks to goals in the first half from Yulema and Nevado and in the second half from Azkona, Marina Artero and Elexpuru. First sensations on the pitch and debuts, albeit unofficial, in the first test of the season. David Aznar was in charge of the team as the new red and white coach. In addition, Maddi Torre returned to the Zurigorri shirt and Nanclares, Sanadri and Garazi Fácila played in their new kit for the first time.

The coach had a first eleven made up of: Quiñones, Amaia M., Landaluze, Maddi, Eunate, Elexpuru, Pinedo, Mariana, Nerea Nevado, Arana and Yulema. It was the captain who opened the scoring in the 16th minute after Arana's generous assist from the byline. Nerea Nevado made it 2-0, again after a pass from Paula Arana from the right. The player from Santurtzi, who played in front of Eunate on the left flank, headed in the cross from the player from Gasteiztarra and managed to score from close range after the Cantabrian goalkeeper made a point-blank save.

More goals in the second half

In the second half there were changes and Amaia Martínez and Elexpuru kept Nanclares in goal, Naroa, Marina Artero, Gara Fácila, Azkona, Itxaso, Claudia F., Peke and Sanadri. Peke started with a shot against the crossbar to keep the pressure on the Racinguistas. Azkona had a good chance after Sanadri's run down the left flank and Peke, from a rebound, had another chance to score. It was in the 69th minute when Ane Azkona headed home Amaia Martínez's cross to make it 3-0. Shortly afterwards, home-grown player Marina Artero, ready in the six-yard box, took advantage of a CDE Rácing gift. Irati Martín was able to score in a fast counterattack for the Cantabrian team. Elexpuru scored the fifth for Athletic Club. It was a good test against a team that was relegated last season to the Segunda RFEF and who will face the Femenino C Zurigorri during the season.

The Lionesses will travel to Tenerife next Wednesday where they will have a mini-tournament with two more friendly matches on the island. The pre-season has just started with good sensations and goals with a month to go until the start of the Liga F.
