Nahikari leads Lionesses to victory at the Reale Arena
David Aznar's side shoot up the table after a hard-fought 0-1 win over Real Sociedad in the Basque Derby
Athletic Club Women beat Real Sociedad 0-1 at the Reale Arena thanks to a Nahikari García strike in the 59th minute. The Lionesses produced a complete performance in San Sebastian, racking up a fifth consecutive win and climbing to sixth place in the Liga F standings.
The first half was tight with neither side having many chances. Cecilia Marcos threatened twice but Adriana Nanclares kept her out, while Elexpuru had a couple of opportunities at the other end.
The match went up a gear after the restart. Amaiur and Cecilia both put Nanclares into action. Just as it seemed Real Sociedad were taking control of affairs, Nahikari shot across goal in the 59th minute to shock the home side.
Athletic had to dig deep in the final few minutes as la Real laid siege in an attempt to equalise. Nerea Eizaguirre sent a free-kick inches wide in the last minute.
Las Rojiblances have now defeated la Real in all three of their meetings this season, both league games and the EH Kopa pre-season tournament.
