Athletic Women reach quarter-finals with resilient display at San Mames
Athletic beat Madrid CFF thanks to an early goal by Nahikari and a great performance by keeper Nanclares

Nahikari García's early strike ensured Athletic Club qualified for Copa quarter-finals after defeating Madrid CFF 1-0 in front of 22,000 spectators at San Mames.
A solid performance by Adriana Nanclares in goal and a raucous crowd at The Cathedral helped the Lionesses resist against a Madrid side that dominated possession and had decent chances.
The decisive moment came in the 3rd minute. Mariana found Ane Azkona in space with a long ball and the forward raced away before playing in Nahikari to score at close-range.
The goal was a gem, but it didn't really settle Athletic's nerves. Madrid began to create chances through their forwards Luany and Kundananji. However, they came up against a composed Adriana Nanclares, who put in a stellar shift on her San Mames debut.
David Aznar's side were much better organised in the second half. Although Madrid CFF kept possession, they couldn't break down the home defence.
In fact, Athletic twice had chances to make it 2-0 from a couple of great free-kicks by Clara Pinedo. From the second, Landaluze headed in at the far post and Kundananji cleared the ball off the line.
San Mamés helped Las Rojiblancas keep the scores level. In the final minute, Athletic went close to conceding in a goalmouth scramble but Landaluze stopped the ball crossing the line before Nanclares fell on it to spark wild celebrations in the stands.
