Lionesses thrash Tenerife in final match of season at Lezama
Athletic hurt the Canary Islanders on the counter-attack in 4-1 win at Lezama
The Lionesses recorded a resounding victory over UDCA Tenerife in the final home match of the 2023/24 campaign. The win means Athletic finish the second half of the season unbeaten at Lezama.
Mariana Cerro opened the scoring in the 12th minute, beating Tenerife's goalkeeper with a low curling shot. The next goal game on the hour mark as Ane Azkona set up Patri Zugasti to make it 2-0.
Cerro got Athletic's third when her shot from the edge of the box took a deflection off a defender before going in.
The Lionesses continued to attack, trying to give the Athleticzales in attendance the perfect send-off. Sara Ortega launched a counter-attack, which saw Ane Elexpuru and Azkona combine before the latter played in Clara Pinedo.
Tenerife's Ainhoa consolation goal in the 90th minute prevented the Zurigorri's from picking up an 11th clean sheet of the season.
Athletic haven't dropped a single point at home in the second half of the season and are still in the hunt for European qualification. There are two fixtures left and the Lionesses want to see out the season in style at San Mames.
