Nekane gave Athletic the lead, but the home side took all three points in Murcia
Athletic Club Women lost 2-1 against Alhama CF in their LaLiga F fixture on Sunday morning. It was a match in which both sides were visibly fatigued from their midweek Copa exploits.
The Lionesses took an early lead via Nekane Diez but could not prevent the hosts from fighting back for the win in the second half.
Even though Astrid had the first chance for Alhama CF, Athletic started better, Nekane opening the scoring in the 20th minute. Eunate put in a low ball for Sara Ortega, who left it on plate for the veteran forward to slot home.
Although all pointed towards Athletic extending their lead on the scoreboard, it was the home side who began to create more chances. Marina threatened before Kuki levelled with a shot inside the box.
After the break, Alhama's Morcillo tried her luck with a powerful shot that went over. Nevado had a shot blocked on the line not long after. Alhama CF made it 2-1 in the 67th minute, Raquel Pinel taking advantage of some defensive indecision
Oihane hit the post with a cross in the 75th minute. Athletic kept going for an equaliser, Arana trying her luck from distance.
A mixture of desperation and tiredness took hold of the Lionesses in the final stretch. Alhama were too much and Athletic couldn't see out a great week with another victory.
