Athletic Club will play against Olympique Marseille this Thursday in their 100th match in San Mamés in European competitions.
Since its debut on 26 September 1956 with a 3-2 victory over FC Porto in the 16th European Cup of Nations on 26 September 1956, the Cathedral has been the setting for an unparalleled ninety-nine European matches, with Thursday's match against the French being the centennial match.
In it, San Mamés has a challenge: to ensure that this long and precious story continues and that we enjoy the 101st match during this same season. This would mean that the lions have managed to overcome their opponents' scoreboard in France and qualify for the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
It won't be easy, but the red-and-white have already managed to come back from the first leg in San Mamés on several occasions, including against Newcastle, Anorthosis, Sporting Portugal, Lokomotiv, Dinamo Tiblisi, Trabzonspor, Ujpest Dozsa and AEK.
