The Lehendakari presides the main box with more than 100 women

Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu will preside the San Mamés main box this afternoon during the Athletic Club’s match against Atlético de Madrid ladies team and, as it claims the occasion, it will be surrounded by more than a hundred prominent women of our society, all of them protagonists in the fight for gender equality in different working environments.

First of all, for the Club it is important to pay tribute to the red-and-white lionesses, pioneers of a feminine football that was growing thanks to its effort and passion for sports. Up to 34 ex-players, led by legendary football players such as Nerea Onaindia, Eba Ferreira, Eli Capa, Joana Flaviano, Aitziber Juaristi or Irune Murua, will occupy a preferential place in the box. Beside, there will also be present members of the technical staff that trained them.

The feminine football of all Bizkaia, with the Federation’s responsible Lourdes Zorrozua at the front, will also be well represented thanks to the presence of directors and coordinators of women’s clubs such as Leioako Emakumeak, Ariz, Basauriko Kimuak, Altzarrate, Ugeraga, Oberena, Pauldarrak, Peña Athletic Santurtzi and San Ignacio.

One of our most distinguished athletes during an entire era, Virginia Berasategi, has also confirmed her attendance. The pelotaris Olatz Arrizabalaga, Patri Espinar and Vane Espinar will also accompany her.
Men´s first team´s representation will give its support from the box.

Not only personalities from the sports world will attend the match, entrepreneur women from different fields will join such an important day, and among them, Mari Feli Cámara, Izaskun Artetxe, Pilar Dosal, Izaskun Landaida, Carolina Pérez, Ángela María Fernández, Victoria Cañas or Ana Urquijo.

In addition to Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu and his wife Lucía Arieta-Araunabeña, daughter of the mythical lion Eneko Arieta; the general deputy, Unai Rementeria, and the mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto, will support the Athletic Club´s ladies team, together with the president Aitor Elizegi and his Board of Directors.

Also will attend to this event other political authorities such as Ana Otadui, president of the General Assembly; Jesús Loza, delegate of the Government; Rafael del Amo, director of women’s football at the RFEF; Deputies Teresa Laespada, Lorea Bilbao and Ibone Bengoetxea; City Councillors Gotzone Sagardui, Oihane Agirregoitia and Itziar Urtasun; Jone Goirizelaia; Itxaso Atutxa; Idoia Mendia; the director of the Network of Technology Parks, Itziar Epalza; Nora Sarasola, from BBK or Josune Ariztondo, from Bilbao 700, among others.

Finally, it should be noted that the catering service for this special evening will be provided by ‘El Mercado de las Especias’, “international food with a social purpose”. Nine women from around the world celebrate every Sunday a culinary event in the Plaza de la Cantera in Bilbao, where they cook traditional dishes from their mother countries and serve them in small rations.
