Ángel Villacampa signs as coach of the female team

Angel Villacampa, the current China U16 coach, will coach Athletic Club Women’s team next season. He takes over from Joseba Aguirre, who is now a sports director, and abandons his Asian adventure attracted by Lezama’s project.

The coach from Toledo is one of the most successful coaches in Spanish women’s football. It is no coincidence that Atletico de Madrid won their first titles under his direction. First, they became the champions of the Copa cup 2015-16, and in the following two seasons, they won the Iberdrola League (2016-17 and 2017-18).

He has impressive numbers at Atlético: he was the first team to achieve an undefeated Iberdrola League (24 wins and 6 draws) with 91 goals scored and only 17 conceded. He was 46 official matches undefeated and played three Cup finals. He won the K.O. tournament having taken the team in the middle of the season, in January. He is a very demanding coach and likes attacking football.

Between Villacampa and Joseba Aguirre they sum up three of the last four Iberdrola Leagues. It’s a combination that allows Athletic Club to dream.
