Joseba Etxeberria will be the next coach of Bilbao Athletic

The myth of Elgoibar reaches an agreement for two seasons and an optional third.

One of his mythical names returns to Athletic Club, the third player with more official matches in the history of the Club. Joseba Etxeberria comes back to Lezama. He will be the coach of the red-and-white subsidiary for the next two seasons and an optional third.

Etxeberria will head the technical staff of Bilbao Athletic, where Jorge Pérez and Iñigo Lizarralde will be his assistants, Dani Aranzubia will work as goalkeeper coach and Edu Estibariz will continue as physical trainer.

Elgoibar’s forward played for 15 seasons at Athletic Club. A hero for an entire generation since the late 90’s and during the first decade of 2000. He played 514 official matches with the zurigorri shirt and once he hung up his boots, he began his tour of the benches. In the 2012-2013 season he directed the Basque League Cadet in Lezama. After passing through the National Youth and the Honorary Youth, in 2015 he became part of the coaching staff of the first team as assistant to Ernesto Valverde, with whom he also won the Supercopa. The following year he was Basconia’s head in the Third Division. In the 2017-2018 season, he took charge of Amorebieta in Second Division until he received the call from Tenerife in February 2018. He took them out of dangerous positions and became the best debutant coach of the Canary club, with which he started the season and was dismissed.

Joseba Etxeberria will offer a press conference tomorrow, Wednesday, at 12.00 noon in the facilities of Lezama.
