Patxi Salinas will be Basconia’s next coach

Patxi Salinas will take charge of Basconia after reaching an agreement for the next two seasons with an optional third. Salinas will have Jon Moreno as second coach.

Patxi Salinas will take charge of Basconia after reaching an agreement for the next two seasons with an optional third. Salinas will have Jon Moreno as second coach. The physical trainer will be Iban Urkiza and the goalkeeper trainer, Armando Ribeiro.

As coach, the youngest of the Salinas brothers began his journey on the bench in Celta’s youth categories, leading a youth team and acting as coordinator. He left the Vigo’s young team to take charge of Porriño’s first and then Gramanet. In the 2005-2006 season he landed again in Lezama to take charge of the National Youth and to be assistant in the Junior A.

In the last years Patxi Salinas has trained among others the Melita of the first division of Malta and several teams of the Spanish Second B Division like the CD Ourense, Sant Andreu, Rápido de Bouzas, Burgos CF and last year the CD Badajoz.

As a player, Patxi Salinas jumped to the first team of Athletic after a season and a half in the ranks of the subsidiary. He made his debut under Javier Clemente’s team in a match in Salamanca (0-1, victory of Athletic) about to turn 19 in 1982. In total, he played 293 official games with Athletic over 10 seasons being an active part of the Athletic who won their last two leagues, as well as a Cup and a Super Cup. In 1992 he left Bilbao to join Celta, where he played more than 200 matches during 6 campaigns in the Vigo’s team, becoming also captain and one of his referents.
