Athletic Club ladies’ team, in search of the Carraza title

The lionesses will fight tonight (10pm, ETB2) to win the historic trophy of Cádiz against the English team Tottenham Hotspur

The Athletic Club limbers up in Jerez de la Frontera before disputing tonight (10pm, ETB2) the final of the 65th edition of the Carranza Trophy. The rival will be English Tottenham Hotspur, who defeated Real Betis 2-1 yesterday in the second semi-final of the competition.

During today until the kick off of the match, Ángel Villacampa will affect the analysis of the rival and the preparation of its players to face the London team. The red-and-white coach has analysed tonight’s final as follows: “Tottenham is a very aggressive rival, they are very vertical and they take the definition of physical equipment to the maximum expression. We have to equalise them in that intensity that they are going to propose and from there, we have to be protagonists with the ball. The players are aware of what it means to play in the final of a tournament of this magnitude and are convinced of what they can do. It’s a pride to represent a club like Athletic in a competition like this and we want to achieve something important”.

The red-and-white squad are only one win away from making history and winning the mythical Gaditan prize, which for the first time in its long history is played by women’s teams. Last year, the lionesses already managed to win the emblematic Teresa Herrera Trophy in A Coruña. If they are able to win tonight, they would get the second Carranza Trophy for the Athletic Club trophy after which in 1972 the men’s team won in 1972 beating Benfica in the final.
