Erika Vázquez and the start of the League

The player from Pamplona, who will start her fifteenth season as a player of Athletic Club, is “looking forward” to the beginning of the Primera Iberdrola

Erika Vázquez, one of the captains of the Athletic Club’s first ladies’ team, has been wearing the red-and-white elastic for three lustrums. The striker is the second oldest player (36 years) of the squad directed by Ángel Villacampa. The Primera Iberdrola starts this weekend and the Levante UD Femenino will be the first rival for the lionesses, this Sunday in the Ciudad Deportivo de Buñol at 12.00 pm.

A month and a half of preparation for the First Iberdrola which, as the skilful midfielder says, “has been hard.” Erika values the preseason in this way: “In Boltaña we did a very good job and then we had matches in which our rivals demanded a lot physically. We also had a very nice experience with the Carranza Trophy, in which we competed very well.”

The red-and-white player is optimistic about the start of the domestic competition, as “the preseason is a little long,” and values her first opponent like this: “Levante is a hard team. They have made a team to fight for the Champions League. It is important for us to do our things well if we want to get something positive.”

The player from Navarre, after overcoming some discomfort at the beginning of the preseason, is already at 100% to face the new season in the elite of women’s football. After fifteen years in the first squad of Athletic Club – the club’s top scorer with 257 goals- Erika Vázquez feels the illusion of the first day: “The moment I stop having that worm of competition and wanting to be better every day, it will be when I’m no longer here.”
