Spectacular passage of LaVuelta by San Mamés

The cycling bunch turned around the San Mamés stadium and left some beautiful images fusing football with a sport present in the history of Athletic Club.

The image of the bunch of LaVuelta 2019 on the grass of San Mamés is already travelling around the world in what will be one of the scenes to remember in the cycling season. Almost sixty years after two stages of the race ended at the San Mamés stadium, one of the biggest sporting events has returned to the red-and-white stadium surrounding the field at the neutralised start of the 14th stage of the 2019 edition of LaVuelta, whose route will end at the Cantabrian port of Los Machucos.

The 165 survivors of this edition of LaVuelta have experienced a unique moment enjoying the stadium from the place usually intended for players. A fusion of football with cycling, a sport historically linked to Athletic Club and the whole of Euskadi, and which has also included the fact that the three Bizkaia cyclists from LaVuelta, Omar Fraile (Astana), Mikel Bizkarra (Euskadi-Murias) and Jonathan Lastra (Caja Rural) have completed the route dressed in the red-and-white t-shirt given to them by Athletic Club with their respective names and numbers at the start of the stage.

The roar of the lion, present in the video scoreboards, has accompanied the historical tour of the cycling bunch by San Mamés.
