San Mamés and ‘La Vuelta’ all around the world

San Mamés and ‘La Vuelta’ all around the world

Prestigious international media report the start of the 13th stage of La Vuelta from the Athletic Club stadium.

San Mamés and its mystique often call the attraction every time Athletic Club plays there. This time, however, cycling has been the sport that has once again put the majesty of the Cathedral in the world spotlight after the start of the 13th stage of the Vuelta from the very grass of our stadium.

The beautiful images left by La Vuelta have not gone unnoticed. The video recorded from inside San Mamés in which the cyclists take the exit neutralized by the perimeter of the field is approaching 700,000 views on Twitter.

Publications from the countries with the greatest cycling tradition in Europe, such as France, Italy, Belgium and Holland, include in their digital editions the peculiar start organised by La Vuelta. San Mamés and the Athletic Club appear in media of the relevance of L’Équipe, Sky Sport Italia or De Telegraaf. L’Équipe itself highlights “the unusual image of a bunch placed behind the race director’s car and entering a stadium with more than 50,000 seats.“ The Daily Mail, for its part, takes the opportunity to recall that “in the 1920s, the Athletic Club had its own cycling team“, as we recently published on our website. And even in America it has had repercussions: the Argentinean newspaper Olé, for example, headlines “La Vuelta al San Mamés” (“The Tour of San Mamés”) and mentions the particularity that the start of the stage took place “in the mythical stadium.”
