From the Museum to the Hospitality Box: Granada CF
AC Museoa exhibits some memories from the first and the last time Granada CF visited San Mamés
Athletic Club and Granada CF have faced each other in 50 matches, all of them official fixtures: 46 times in LaLiga and 4 in the Cup; counting a total of 26 wins for the Basque team, 12 draws, and 12 wins for the Andalusian side.
The first time both teams played together was on 2 November 1941 at Los Cármenes, Granada’s stadium, where the final result was 1-3; and their last contest was held at San Mamés, with the same result (3-1) in favour of the Basque side.
Memories of the first and the last Granada CF’s visits to the old San Mamés are being displayed today in the Directors’ Box: a picture by Cecilio of the first XI that set foot on La Catedral (The Cathedral) in 1942 and the shirt captain Diego Mainz wore when playing against Athletic on 1 April 2013.
Coincidentally, the outcome of both fixtures was the same, 1-0 in favor of Athletic, being the goalscorers two red-and-white star footballers: Telmo Zarraonandia and Aritz Aduriz.
