Athletic Club is ending the year as one of the three best host teams of LaLiga, together with FC Barcelona and either Atlético or Real Madrid
Including yesterday’s match at San Mamés, Athletic has closed an extraordinary 2019 at La Catedral. Gaizka Garitano’s side have recorded one of their best registers regarding the home results obtained during a calendar year in the history of the club, to the extent that the Red and Whites are only bettered by FC Barcelona, while it is still possible for Real Madrid to get the same points as them.
Athletic have secured 44 points from San Mamés so far this year –thirteen wins, five draws and just one loss-, only topped by Barça’s 49 points -which could be increased up to 55 if they win their last two remaining games this month of December (El Clásico and the clash with Alavés)-. As for Real Madrid (now 41 points), they are the only team who can tie on points with Athletic if they beat the red-and-white side next Sunday (9.00 pm) at Santiago Bernabéu. Atlético de Madrid are ranked third in this particular list, with 43 points picked up from their 19 home games played in 2019.
Athletic Club’s impressive numbers at San Mamés in 2019 are reaffirmed with the proportion of scored and conceded goals (30/10) as well as the 13 victories clinched, with just a single defeat (against Valencia) and only five draws.
