Debuts in Athletic Club in 2019
This year there have been seven debuts in official matches between our first two teams
Oihane Hernández. Kenan Kodro. Oihane Valdezate. Oihan Sancet. Gaizka Larrazabal. Andrea de la Nava. And Amaiur Sarriegi. The year 2019 has witnessed a number of debuts in Athletic Club’s first two teams. The following is a review of each one of those seven moments that will remain forever in the memory of our protagonists.
On the eve of Three Kings Day, Oihane Hernández made his debut in the 3-0 defeat against Atletico Madrid at Cerro del Espino in Majadahonda after replacing Andrea Sierra in the 58th minute.
After signing for Athletic Club in the winter market from FC Copenhagen, Kenan Kodro played for the first time at San Mamés on February 10 in the scoreless draw against FC Barcelona on the 23th matchday of LaLiga Santander 2018-19, after replacing Iñaki Williams in the 89th minute.
The third of the seven players to play in an Athletic Club shirt in a competitive match was Oihane Valdezate, who replaced Jone Ibáñez in the 83rd minute of last season’s Primera Iberdrola on April 13 in Albacete in a 1-0 win thanks to Nerea Nevado’s goal.
This season, in the unforgettable 1-0 win over FC Barcelona on the opening matchday of 16 August, Oihan Sancet replaced Óscar de Marcos in the 65th minute, as shown in the photograph that illustrates this news item.
Also in August, on the 2nd matchday of La Liga Santander, Gaizka Larrazabal made his debut after the half-time break in Getafe, curiously replacing De Marcos again in the one-goal draw.
Goalkeeper Andrea de la Nava was a starter on the opening day of the Primera Iberdrola at Ciudad Deportiva Buñol on September 8, which ended in a 2-0 defeat against Levante UD.
The last player to debut with Athletic Club for the first time in an official match was Amaiur Sarriegi, who contributed to the 2-1 victory over Real Betis in Lezama on October 19 thanks to goals from Ane Azkona and Garazi Murua on penalties; Azkona was replaced by Amaiur in the 87th minute.
