The lionesses, in wait for the Levante UD

Athletic, in fifth place, will try to score points against the granotas team that strongly defends the third place in the Primera Iberdrola

The 16th matchday of the Primera Iberdrola that will face Athletic Club and Levante UD in Lezama (Sunday 12, 12.00pm) will be the one to open the second round of the league calendar. Four months after the opening of the championship, lionesses and granotas will meet again. The first leg of the match at Ciudad Deportiva de Buñol ended in a 2-0 victory for the Levante with goals from Eva Navarro and Alba Redondo, and a muscle injury for Nekane in the first half of the match. Since then, Villacampa’s team has improved its performance and has been able to assimilate the concepts and the way of working of the new coach to reach the 23 points.

In front will be Maria Pry leading a very regular team that has lost only three games in the first leg (against Rayo Vallecano, Atlético de Madrid and FC Barcelona).  Moreover, Levante UD are in great condition as they have accumulated five victories and a draw in the last six matches and will travel to Lezama after a 2-0 win over Real Betis in the last match.

The aim of the Valencian team is to beat Atlético Madrid, who are four points behind them. The granota team is the second best visitor in the league and the team that scores the least goals (13), a figure that is only surpassed by FC Barcelona. It will be a very complex match for the lionesses who will expect the absence of Marta Unzué due to injury. On the other hand, Pry will not be able to line up Andonova or Lucia. Beating Levante UD would mean to reduce points against a direct rival for the third place and specially a huge impulse to face the demanding beginning of the year. The lionesses are on the lookout and do not want to lose the track (now six points) of the Levante team.
