Elche CF, rival in the round of 16 of the Cup

Athletic Club will face Elche CF at the Martínez Valero Stadium in the round of sixteen of the 2019-20 King’s Cup. The match will be played next week (Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday) and as all the qualifying rounds of this competition until the semi-finals, the format is a single match in the field of the lower category team.

The team from Elche ranks 7th in the Smartbank League, with 32 points after winning eight matches, drawing eight and losing six. Curiously, Athletic Club will return to the field where they already played against CF Intercity in the first leg of this edition of the competition. Elche CF was also Athletic Club’s rival in the penultimate cup match of the red and white club, where they won by a 1-0 in the final of the 1968-69 Cup held at the Santiago Bernabéu. The heroes of that Cup were honoured recently by Athletic Club on the 50th anniversary of the event.
