Villacampa: “It’s a match to claim us”

The red-and-white coach hopes that the team will take a step forward at home and show their best against another struggling team like Valencia CF

Athletic Club ladies’s team coach, Ángel Villacampa, has appeared before the media shortly after knowing that UD Granadilla Tenerife will be the lionesses’ rival in the first match of the round of 16 of the Queen’s Cup. The red-and-white coach, without going into details of the match, has stressed the importance of taking away the strongest opponents in the first round and the advantage that, a priori, playing on home without having to travel abroad during the week.

Aside from the Queen’s Cup, Athletic Club will face Valencia CF in Lezama this Sunday at 11.00am, a team that has gone nine rounds without a win: “Our last victory was in Huelva and we have to take a real step forward at home. The team is really good and, because of the defeat against Madrid CFF, we have a new challenge ahead of us. This match has to serve to vindicate us and show who we are.”

Regarding the ché team, coached by Irene Ferreras, the coach has highlighted that “it arrives with urgencies to Lezama. It is a vertical and combined team, joy in the game and that is paying in excess the few errors that it commits. Although they are far from the table, the match is not going to be easy.”

As for the certain casualties, the coach has confirmed Jone Ibáñez, Marta Perea, Marta Unzué, Yulema Corres, Leia Zarate and Nekane. Six absences, plus the inconveniences of Lucía García, which will force him to strengthen the call with the players of the subsidiary Irene Oguiza and Amaiur Sarriegi.
