Last Copa match for Aduriz at San Mamés

Last Copa match for Aduriz at San Mamés

The striker will play his 23rd and last Copa del Rey (King’s Cup) match with the red-and-white shirt today at The Cathedral against Granada

In the season of his farewell to football, Aritz Aduriz will say goodbye today to the Copa competition in San Mamés –hopefully with two more away matches– in the first leg of the semi-final against Granada CF (9.00pm).

The red-and-white striker has played 22 Copa matches with Athletic in The Cathedral so far, in which he has scored 11 goals, the first one in 2008 in a sixteenth final match (2-0) against Hercules.

Curiously, in his first Copa match with Athletic at San Mamés, against Real Madrid in the first leg of the Round of 16 2005-06, he faced the now Granada striker Roberto Soldado.

Aduriz has played a total of 39 matches with the red-and-white shirt in the Copa (away and at home), with a total of 16 goals.

A longer history in the Copa
The red-and-white striker made his debut in the Copa on the 11th of September of 2002 in a match in which Athletic played against Amurrio in Basarte. Aduriz scored his first Copa goal at The Cathedral in January 2005, wearing the Real Valladolid shirt in the first leg of the quarter-final, which ended in a 3-2. The Athletic Club striker has played a total of 64 matches in the Copa del Rey -22 of them at San Mamés- joining his participations with Valladolid, Valencia CF, RCD Mallorca and Real Burgos.
