First women team’s coach signs a one-season renewal agreement in Ibaigane

Athletic Club and Angel Villacampa, first women team’s coach coach, have signed an agreement in Ibaigane to renew his contract for one more season as it had been reached earlier.

The red-and-white coach arrived at the club to take over the team in the 2019-2010 season. Last March, with the team about to play the semi-final of the Queen’s Cup (Copa de la Reina) against EDF Logroño at Las Gaunas, the competition was stopped at the Primera Iberdrola due to covid-19. The team is then ranked fifth in the League, two points behind the fourth classified team.

With his arrival, the lions experienced a transition after Joseba Aguirre’s four consecutive seasons on the bench. The coach from Toledo is demanding and has perfectly understood the value of the quarry of Lezama. It is thanks to him that the youngsters Ane Azkona, Oihane Hernandez and Valdezate have been able to establish themselves in Primera, all of them recently renewed until 2023. In addition, during this season other players from the subsidiary team made their debut such as Amaiur Sarriegi, Irene Oguiza and Naroa Uriarte.

Villacampa arrived at Bilbao from China, where he trained women’s U-16 team. Prior to that, he worked at Atletico Madrid, where he won two League titles (one of them, in 2016-17, as an undefeated team) and the Queen’s Cup (Copa de la Reina).
