Ismael Urtubi Arostegi was born in Barakaldo on May 24, 1961. Formed in our Academy, he played for Athletic Club between 1980 and 1992, although he was on loan at RCD Mallorca and Margaritense in the Balearic Islands.

He debuted with the First Team against Real Sporting and his first official goal was scored against RCD Espanyol. In his last official match, in a Copa del Rey game against Deportivo Alavés, he also scored.

Free kick specialist and penalty shooter, Urtubi was one of the outstanding pieces of the Athletic champion of the 80s, and under the direction of Javier Clemente he won two Leagues, a Cup and a SuperCup.

He played 278 matches throughout 11 seasons in which he scored 37 goals.
