The AC Museum reopens with a new exhibition

Athletic Club Museum and San Mamés Tour open their doors again in June hosting a new temporary exhibition ‘Euro Champions’

After several months of forced closure due to the alarm state, Athletic Club Museoa will reopen from June 6 during weekends from 10am to 8pm (except on match or training days at San Mamés).

In addition, there will also be guided tours of San Mamés. Tickets for these tours can be booked through the club’s official website to secure your place and avoid queues.

Athletic Club has taken all possible sanitary measures to guarantee the safety of the spaces, limiting access to the Museum to 30 people every half hour.

Members can visit the museum and tour the stadium free of charge during the months of June, July and August.

New temporary exhibition “Euro Champions”

The red-and-white museum will be housing a remarkable collection for the next few weeks in the multi-purpose room: a new temporary exhibition dedicated to “Euro Champions”. You can revive over half a century of football history through unique pieces that will be on display for the first time, making “Euro Champions” a proper tribute to the history of football.

Beginning with the Museum’s own collection, José Ángel Iribar’s to be more precise, the number of display items has been increasing thanks to generous donations made by other football museums, coming from federations, clubs, individuals, or even from some of the most important private collections in the world.

The 250 square-metre space will contain over 50 original pieces, featuring the shirts of some of the most representative footballers from the teams who won the Euro Championship between 1960 and 2016: Yashin (1960), Iribar (1964), Zoff (1968), Netzer (1972), Panenka (1976), Rummenigge (1980), Bellone (1984), Van Basten (1988), Larsen (1992), Eilts (1996), Zidane (2000), Charisteas (2004), Casillas (2008), Iniesta (2012) and Ronaldo (2016).

All the shirts have their own story. Such is the case of great Yashine (considered to be the best goalkeeper of all time), who played the final in 1964 with the USSR national team, wearing his Dynamo Moscow’s shirt; or Czech footballer Paneka’s jersey, the one he was wearing when he converted a decisive legendary penalty against Sepp Maier (winner of Athletic’s One Club Man Award in 2017); or the one Van Basten wore the day he scored one of the most impressive goals ever seen in a Euro final.

Additionally, the exhibition will give us the chance to find out more about the evolution of other football-related material throughout the years. Together with the aforementioned shirts, we can find articles like the pennants given during the Euro Championship, football boots or balls (‘Invicto’, the ball used in the UEFA Euro 1964; Adidas ‘Beau Jeu’, used in the 2016 final between France and Portugal; ‘Tango’ in the 80s and ‘Etrusco’ in the 90s, to name a few). For the purpose of this exhibition, a video and a catalogue have also been elaborated to complement these objects.
