Muniain: “We are ready and eager to play”

The captain of Athletic Club believes the lions are at an optimal level to face and return to LaLiga on Sunday in San Mamés

Athletic Club’s captain, Iker Muniain, showed up today at the press room of Lezama in order to answer on line to the questions posed by the media. In the week of the return to competition – on Sunday, Athletic Club will receive Atletico Madrid at San Mamés – the 10 red-and-white players are eager to play again like a team, he believes the team is ready for this return of LaLiga: “It has been 3 long months. We’ve never been in a situation like this before in terms of sport. We have carried out a mini-season in which we have gone from less to more, taking into account the vibes and feelings so as to reach an optimal level to compete with every guarantee“.

Muniain admits that the teams that better adapt to the numerous changes that will be seen in this return to the competition will take advantage, with the European objective in mind, he calls on prudence regarding the chances to make it to seventh position: “It is necessary to get a great amount of points and to try to add points in three in the maximum of possible matches. We’re going to take one step at a time. We have the objective and the expectation of reaching Europe because of what it means in all aspects for the club and the players”.

The lions will return to San Mamés on Sunday at 14:00, and play against Atlético de Madrid, a team always difficult to play against: “It is one of the teams always ranked at the top of the table. They are very hard and very strong, with players of great quality. Atlético is always dangerous. Nevertheless I see Athletic ready and eager to compete“. It will be in an empty cathedral, something very atypical for all the members of the red-and-white squad: “It’s going to be very strange, in a stadium that is used to beat every Sunday and that helps us a lot. I hope we can pursue a victory for all the supporters who can’t make it, the dead, all those who have lost a loved one…“.
