Garitano: “It will be a strange derby”

Athletic’s coach is optimistic about tomorrow’s match against Eibar, although he warns: “I have not seen any team dominating at Ipurua”

Gaizka Garitano has appeared in the press room of Lezama in the previous of tomorrow’s match against SD Eibar at Ipurua (7.30pm). The red-and-white coach expects a “difficult match, like all the matches played at Ipurua. They dominate the game and they make you feel stuck, they like to take the lead in the game”. Even so, Garitano is optimistic about tomorrow’s match: “They are very competitive, but we are also a brave team. I see the players very well, with good play, and we will go to Eibar to win.”

Despite the fact that “the team has rested well”, the coach admits that with such a busy schedule the technical staff has to adapt to the preparation of the matches: “It is more important than ever to be a blackboard coach. With so few days between matches, we focus more on the analysis of the opponent through videos and talks. We cannot tire in training the players who have been playing and will be playing again.”

Tomorrow’s match at Ipurua will be the last Basque derby for the lions this season: “It will be strange. Without an audience, derbies are less derbies. Nothing is more important than the supporters,” comments Garitano.
