The most recent Athletic-Mallorca at San Mamés

The goals of Aduriz and Llorente led to a 2-1 victory for the lions in the last league match between the two teams at The Cathedral.

On May 11, 2013, Athletic and RCD Mallorca competed at San Mamés in the 35th matchday of the 2012-13 season of LaLiga in a match that ended with a 2-1 local victory thanks to the goals of Aritz Aduriz and Fernando Llorente.

The lions, who were then coached by Marcelo Bielsa, arrived at the match after five rounds without winning. A few minutes from the start, Aduriz put his team ahead with a header, making it 1-0 at half-time. Fernando Llorente, who entered in substitution of Aduriz, made the second red-and-white goal in the 78th. Two minutes later, Giovanni scored for Mallorca in a set piece, setting the final 2-1.

That last encounter at San Mamés was full of tension, cards and nerves. Four yellow cards were given to the locals, while on the visiting side, Fontás (24′) and Ximo (in 91′) were sent off for double cautioning and Martí and Hutton received yellow cards. In addition, Aouate stopped the penalty kick after Fontás was sent off, and the referee cancelled Muniain’s goal for an apparent offside in the same play as the penalty kick.
