Match preview: Levante UD v Athletic Club (Matchweek 36)

The Valencian team will welcome the lions on Sunday, having already secured their stay in the first division after resuming the competition

Athletic Club is facing a vital duel on Sunday, one of their last opportunities to get a place in the Europa League next season. And they will go for it against Levante UD at Estadio Camilo Cano de La Nucía -Ciutat de Valencia is under renovation- at 5:00 pm.

This is a comfortable end of the season for the Valencian side. Having technically secured their stay after the resumption of LaLiga -in Matchweek 33-, Levante are sitting twelfth in the standings and do not have much to worry about in their remaining games.

Two wins (Espanyol and Betis), four draws (Valencia, Sevilla, Valladolid and Real Sociedad) and two losses (Atlético de Madrid and RCD Mallorca); those are the results the side managed by Paco López have obtained since the competition was resumed in the middle of June, having earned 10 points out of 24, while Athletic has added 11.

In their previous LaLiga contest, they fell to a two-nil defeat against a really needy Mallorca side.

Past two visits to Levante

The lions returned empty-handed from their last visit to Ciutat de Vàlencia in LaLiga, and the Valencian team had prevailed 3-0 over them the previous season too in Matchweek 14. It was the year before when Athletic last grabbed three points there thanks to a 1-2 win, courtesy of a brace from Aritz Aduriz.
