“It’s a very special day for me,” the goalkeeper said.
Athletic Club goalkeeper Unai Simón has everything quite clear. He’s achieved a dream with Athletic and his happiness was more than evident as he signed his new contract alongside president Aitor Elizegi and director of football Rafa Alkorta.
“Can you imagine?” Simón said. “I’ve been here since I was 14-years-old, I signed for Athletic as a youngster. To be here until 2025 is a dream for me.”
The keeper will hold a press conference this morning but wanted to send a message to all Athletic Club fans regarding his commitment: “I’m very proud and happy that club has decided to place its trust in me.”
The news came on a quite a day for Simón. In addition to celebrating the two-year anniversary of his debut in red and white, the keeper was called up to the Spain national side for the first time in his career.
“It’s been a great day for me, very beautiful and special. It’s happened on the anniversary of my debut and it’s come together with the call from [Spain coach] Luis Enrique,” the shot-stopper added.
