Athletic Club defender Yeray Álvarez said the lions’ upcoming match against Sevilla FC at San Mamés is a must-win and Athletic need to pick up the three points at any cost.
The lions currently sit in 16th place in the LaLiga Santader table, while Saturday’s opponents Sevilla are one point ahead in 13th. The two sides’ LaLiga fixture in Bilbao kicks off on Saturday at 16:00 CET.
“We have to win,” Yeray told the media at a press conference in Lezama. “We have to get the three points. It doesn’t matter what team Sevilla put out, it doesn’t matter if they have a match [during the week] or not.
“They’re a very complete team. So, we have to keep our concentration and be accurate in front of goal.”
Centre-back Yeray missed three Matchdays 3, 4 and 5 due to injury, but has recently returned to the starting line-up and confirmed that he is feeling better.
He said: “On a personal level, since I returned to the starting XI, I’ve doing great physically.”
Despite the negative result against CA Osasuna, Yeray has plenty of confidence in the team. “I can see the team is switched on, they’re fully involved in every training session during the week and also in matches,” he said.
“The forwards are keen to score. And from the back we can help them by providing them with good passes. We all have to improve in that area.”
