Yeray

Committed to Athletic Club until 2026 at least, Yeray is Athletic through-and-through and first came to Lezama as a 14-year-old. 

He won a battle against testicular cancer in 2017/18 and came back even stronger. Despite the fierce competition for places at the heart of Athletic’s defence, Yeray’s name tends to be one the of the first on the team sheet. 

A very technical player, Yeray can play out of the back and is comfortable receiving the ball at feet in dangerous situations. He's an extremely intelligent defender and what he might lack in size or strength compared to some of his opponents he more than makes up for in his reading of the game - he always seems to be one step ahead mentally. 

Since making his first-team debut in 2016/17, Yeray has made more than 200 appearances, scoring three goals with the red-and-white shirt. Yeray personifies Athletic Club’s core values: hard work, sacrifice and humility. For this reason, he’s a role model to all Athletic Club youngsters.
