Garitano: “The goals will come”

Gaizka Garitano previews Athletic’s LaLiga Santander fixture against Sevilla FC tomorrow

It is only a matter of time until Athletic Club’s luck in front of goal turns, according to manager Gaizka Garitano. The boss insisted the lions are constantly working hard to ensure they take their chances.

Athletic welcome Sevilla FC to San Mamés tomorrow for the LaLiga Santander Matchday 8 tie (kick off at 16:15 CET). The match in Bilbao will be the Andalusians’ third fixture in the space of a week and the lions will attempt to take advantage of any tired legs.

“We’ll give everything to score,” Garitano said at his pre-match press conference in the Lezama training centre. “We’re one of the teams that has most possession of the ball during games in LaLiga.

“We keep the ball for long periods and we press very high up the pitch. But that doesn’t mean you will always score goals. We haven’t stopped working on the offensive side of our game and we’ll be brave at San Mamés tomorrow.”

The coach warned that Sevilla, current Europa League champions, will be extremely tough opposition, adding: “They’re very strong and quick, but so are we.

“We’ll try to play in their half, just as we have done in our last few matches. We always have possession and we only need to be more accurate. There’s belief in the way we play and I’m sure the goals will come.”
