The lionesses’ final home game of 2020

Ángel Villacampa’s side take on Rayo Vallecano in their 2020 fixture at Lezama

This Saturday morning, December 19, Athletic Club Women are back in Primera Iberdrola action at Lezama.

The lionesses’ final game of the year sees them face Rayo Vallecano at 11:00. The Madrid-based side currently sit in 14th place in the league table, two points above the relegation zone.

Athletic Club, in ninth place, are desperately seeking a win to bring their run of bad form to an end. Despite performing well and deserving more than they are getting, the lionesses have not won in their last six matches.

As 2020 comes to a close, Athletic will be looking to finish the year on a high with a couple of victories. After playing against Rayo on Saturday, the lionesses will make the short journey down to La Rioja to face EDF Logroño on Tuesday 22.

At the first hurdle, Athletic have to overcome Rayo in a fixture that has become something of a classic for women’s football. Both sides have been in the top division for 17 years, facing each other on 42 occasions. At Lezama, Rayo Vallecano have only managed three wins and four draws against the lionesses, falling to defeat nine times.

In fact, Rayo have gone home empty-handed on their last four visits to Biscay.
