Athletic Club midfielder Unai Vencedor has signed a two-year contract extension with the Lions.
The 20-year-old’s new deal will expire on June 30, 2025, and contains a release clause of €40 million.
Vencedor has established himself in the first team in 2020-21, with 18 of his 19 appearances coming in the current campaign. What’s more, he was a starter in both games as Athletic beat Real Madrid and then FC Barcelona to win the Spanish Super Cup.
The Bilbao-born central-midfielder arrived at Lezama via local side Santutxu in 2017-18.
He went on to make great strides at Lezama. And after a fantastic debut season with the U-19s, Unai went straight up to Bilbao Athletic, skipping Basconia.
Vencedor made his first-team debut in 2019-20, his second season with the reserves, called up by then head coach Gaizka Garitano to face Osasuna in a LaLiga Santander fixture at San Mamés.
He would make no further appearances that season, but after waiting patiently for his opportunities, this season he has shown that not only is he a very bright prospect for the future, but he can also make an impact in the present.
The footballer will hold a virtual press conference on Tuesday at 09:45 CET.
