Mikel Balenziaga puts pen to paper on a new deal
Athletic Club left-back Mikel Balenziaga has signed a one-year contract extension, keeping him at the Club until June 30, 2022. Furthermore, the new deal contains no release clause.
Mikel is in his tenth season at Athletic. So far he has made a total of 271 appearances for the Lions.
In 2020-21, Balenziaga has featured in 13 matches, this includes starts against Real Madrid and FC Barcelona as Athletic won the Supercopa in January.
Along with Oscar de Marcos, Balenziaga is the only player in the current squad to have played in all four games in both of Athletic’s recent Super Cup triumphs (2015 and 2021).
The defender will hold a virtual press conference live from Lezama this Saturday.
