Sancet makes official debut for Spain Under-21s

The Athletic Club player played 15 minutes in the Spain Under-21 team’s narrow defeat against Portugal

Athletic Club attacking midfielder Oihan Sancet got his first official Spain Under-21 cap on Thursday night.

The 21-year-old Lezama graduate came on as a substitute during the match, replacing Manu García in the 75th minute. However, Luis de la Fuente’s side fell to a 1-0 loss, going behind to a Fábio Viera strike in the 80th minute.

After making appearance in Thursday’s UEFA European Under-21 Championship semi-final, Sancet joins Unai Simón, Unai Núñez, Iñigo Martínez, Unai López, Iker Muniain, Iñaki Williams and Óscar de Marcos as current Lions who have played in official fixtures for Spain Under-21s.

The young Lion had already made his unofficial debut in a Spain Under-21 friendly against Germany on October 10, 2019.
