Fan club awards at Lezama

On Wednesday morning a simple act of recognition took place in Lezama as several fan clubs gave awards to some of the Club’s players. Many of the awards were presented belatedly as the pandemic prevented them from being handed to the players last season.

Goyo Arbizu, representative of fan clubs on the Board of Directors, and Andoni Goikoetxea, representative of the Athletic Foundation, accompanied the fan club club members at the event.

The Peña Garras Taldea awarded their 2019-20 player of the season prizes to Iñigo Martínez and Ane Azkona, respectively. In addition, they also presented the 20-21 season award to Álex Berenguer, while Lucía García, voted best female player last season, was unable to received her award in person as she is away on international duty with the Spanish national team.

In addition, the Peña Garras Taldea and the Peña Athletic All Iron Femenino paid tribute to goalkeeper Ainhoa Tirapu after her retirement in April 2020.

From the Riojan town of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, two members of the local fan club came to present Álex Berenguer with an award from their homeland. The forward received his weight in wine as a prize.

Finally, a group of Facebook fans also wanted to give a little something to Berenguer, who they recognised as the most important player of last season.
