AC Museum: 100 years of San Mamés scoreboards

New temporary exhibition to mark 100 years of San Mamés scoreboards displaying the result to attending fans

March 2021 marked 100 years since San Mamés first started using scoreboards to display the result to match-going fans. To mark this anniversary, Athletic Club Museum has organised the exhibition “100 years of San Mamés scoreboards”, a journey through the history of the different scoreboards that have graced the stands at The Cathedral, highlighting their importance for those present at the stadium.

From Friday September 17, you can visit the exhibition with your ticket for the AC Museum and the San Mamés Tour.

Using photographs, documents and original pieces, the new temporary exhibition traces the history of San Mamés scoreboards over the last century: the times when scores were changed using pulleys, when goals were announced via pigeon, the birth of the “simultaneous scoreboard” and the latest generation video scoreboard, where the results are accompanied by the most innovative digital designs.

Located in the multi-purpose room at the AC Museum, next to the Aritz Aduriz ‘Overhead kick’ painting by Iñaki García Ergüin, “100 years of San Mamés scoreboards” offers a unique opportunity to learn about one of the most common features at any football stadium, a major component at every match, and something which all fans pay a lot of attention to.

Come to the AC Museum and learn all about it!
