The Club and Foundation have joined CAFE’s (Centre for Access to Football in Europe) awareness week

Athletic Club and the Foundation have once again taken part in CAFE’s (Centre for Access to Football in Europe) week to raise awareness for reduced mobility. The campaign is to be held between March 12 and 20.

Athletic Club’s Denon Athletic is LaLiga’s first official fan club started by people with reduced mobility and it currently has 76 members. They regularly meet up at San Mamés, using the Bar La Campa de los Ingleses as their base.

Sponsored by UEFA, CAFE’s mission to improve accessibility in football stadiums, especially for people who have reduced mobility. On Saturday night, the San Mames lit up in the blue, CAFE’s colours.

CAFE’s motto, which Athletic Club has adopted, is #TotalAccess. The aim is to promote true inclusion in order to enhance the experience of being part of Athletic Club and for everyone to be able to use the club’s facilities on an everyday basis, no matter their physical condition.

One of the most important initiatives that the Club has presented for implementation in the last few months is the escalators at San Mamés. They make it easier for spectators to access the third tier in stadium’s four main stands.

The new escalators, which facilitate access to their seats for 29,000 people, run parallel to the existing stairs without causing any disruption. Persons with permanent or temporary reduced mobility and the elderly have priority for using them.
