It is difficult to imagine Athletic Club without Erika Vázquez, but just over a week ago the player with the most appearances in the history of Athletic Club Women said farewell to the game

After 17 seasons as a Lioness, Erika’s time at the Club has come to an end, she leaves behind an career and legacy. 423 appearances, 264 goals (the last of which she scored in her final game) and three league titles. Not just any footballer achieves these figures and leaves the mark that our the striker has left on the game.

At 39 years old, the forward looks back on her life and career, showing us the place where she fell in love with football. In Barañain she knew one day she would be a footballer and after playing for SD Lagunak she came to Lezama. Erika’s father Blas Vázquez has a humble homemade museum in his living room where he lovingly treasures memorabilia such as awards, medals, boots and match balls. All items that were part of the story of a player who became synonymous with goals.

“I’m leaving the game with the feeling of having done the best I could. I’m leaving with a sense of peace and happiness,” said the now former footballer. In the following video, Erika looks back on a career that is only matched by the greatest legends of our Club.
