Hello and welcome to our live coverage of Athletic Club Election Day 2022. Throughout the day, both on the website and on all our official Twitter accounts, we’ll be bringing you all the latest news surrounding the elections, from the three candidates casting their ballot, live turnout percentages and interviews with the different personalities who come to vote at San Mamés.

You can also follow events via a special live YouTube programme (In Spanish & Basque), which will be on air from when the voting booths open at 09:00 CEST until the end of the day.

Jon Uriarte wins the 2022 Athletic Club Presidential Elections

After tallying the 23,506 ballots cast by Club Members at San Mamés today, the Electoral Board has announced Jon Uriarte as the winner of the 2022 Athletic Club Presidential Elections.

Jon Uriarte received 10,979 votes (46.71%)

Iñaki Arechabaleta received 7,927 votes (33.72%)

Ricardo Barkala received 4,262 votes (18.13%)

With 9,235 votes tallied (22.9%), the second highest turnout at this stage of the day in the last five elections, participation is over five points higher than in 2018 (17.7%).

2,781 votes recorded (6.9%) in the second hour of elections at San Mamés, 1,002 votes more than in 2018 (4.3%). The turnout is very similar to that of 2011.

The number of votes received in the first hour has seen a significant increase compared to the 2018 elections. So far, 1,236 votes (3.1%) have been counted, compared to 697 (1.7%) at this point in 2018.

Athletic Club’s outgoing president has come to San Mamés to exercise his right to cast a vote. “It is going to be a celebration of Athletic. Every four years we have the honour of asking the Members to elect the next president and a new project, and look to the future united with pride,” Elizegi said to the Club’s media.

The 10th election day in Athletic Club history is about to start. 40,257 members, those registered on the electoral census, of legal age, and with a least a year of membership under their belt, will come to San Mamés in order elect the 33rd president of Athletic Club.

The 24 ballot boxes are now ready to receive Athletic voters from 09:00 until 21:00.
