Valverde: "This was an important victory for us"

Ernesto Valverde, who is now the manger with most victories in Athletic Club history, said he was pleased with the manner of his side's 0-4 victory against Cadiz CF at the Nuevo Mirandilla on Monday night.

Iñaki Williams, Gorka Guruzeta (x2) and Alex Berenguer got on the scoresheet as the Lions picked up a first away win of the 2022/23 LaLiga campaign with a specactular display of vibrant attacking football.

"This was an important moment for us," said Valverde in his post-match press conference.

"It was our first game away from home and we wanted to give the type of performance we would at San Mames. I think we imposed ourselves. We were very good.

"After the first goal we calmed down and we grew with the game. It's important to be able to play well and to be able to put your stamp on the match. I'm happy because we managed to show our identity."

In addition to being effective in the final third, Los Leones kept a second consecutive clean sheet.

The Gaffer added: "We're not conceding many chances, we want to keep it that way. The best way to score goals is to create a lot of dangerous situations. We can do that because we have talented attacking players."
