San Mamés tribute for our World U-20 and European U-19 champions

Athletic Club Women youngsters Ane Elexpuru, Maite Zubieta, Clara Pinedo and Amaia Martínez will take a ceremonial kick-off at San Mamés before Sunday's match against RCD Espanyol..

The four Biscay-born players have enjoyed a summer full of triumphs with the Spanish national team. First, they won the European Under-19 Championship in the Czech Republic in July. Ane Elexpuru played a leading role in the final, scoring one of the two goals in the comeback against Norway in Ostrava.

With hardly any time to rest, and as the tournament was postponed due to the pandemic, the U-20 World Cup was held in Costa Rica in August. Elexpuru, Pinedo and Zubieta were able to complete an incredible double within the space of two months, Spain beating Japan 3-1 in the World Cup final.

Until now, only three world champions had come from Athletic Club Women's youth teams. Those three players are now in the first team: Paula Arana, Nerea Nevado and Naroa Uriarte. On December 1 2018, they won the U-17 World Cup when Spain defeated Mexico 2-1 to lift the trophy.

We politely request that fans attending the match at San Mamés arrive in good time in order to participate in this tribute to our champions.
