Athletic Club Women debuts in 2022

Lezama's prolific youth academy means that in 2022 we saw three young players compete for Athletic Club Women in league competition for the first time, in this case in the newly created Liga F.

Teenagers Jone Amezaga and Sara Ortega both made goalscoring debuts. At just 16 years old, Sara made her first appearance on January 26, 2022, coming on a substitute with 20 minutes to go in a Copa match against Racing Féminas in Torrelavega - more than enough time to get on the scoresheet.

Jone Amezaga made her debut in this season's LaLiga F opener at Lezama against Sporting Huelva. The youngster opened the scoring, taking just 50 seconds to get her first senior goal.

Despite their ages, these two players are fast becoming a key part of Iraia Iturregi's plans and have made several more starts so far this season.

On October 2, 2022, Ane Elexpuru fulfilled her dream of playing for her childhood side when she started against Real Madrid at Lezama. Despite the adverse result, it was a day the young Lioness will never forget. She started and played 60 minutes on the 20th anniversary of Athletic Club Women's first official fixture.
