Athletic Club Women defender Nerea Nevado has signed a new two-year contract, with a one-season extension clause, keeping her in Bilbao until June 30, 2025 at the very least.
The full-back arrived at Lezama in 2016/17 after spells with Bizkerre FT and her local team, CD Santurtzi. Nerea made her senior debut on September 22, 2018, then splitting her time between the first team and reserves before being sent out on loan to Deportivo Alaves for the 2021/22 campaign.
Upon returning to Athletic, Nevado has become a regular under head coach Iraia Iturregi, starting all 19 matches for the Lionesses so far in 2022/23.
"Being from Santurtzi, it is special for me to be able to keep wearing this shirt for at least two more seasons," the defender said after putting pen to paper on her new agreement at Ibaigane Palace alongside club president Jon Uriarte and director of women's football Xabier Arrieta.
"It's an honour to defend Athletic in the highest level, we know how special we are and we have to keep working hard."
During the signing ceremony at Ibaigane, Nerea's mother, Silvia, surprised everyone by taking out a pen she gave her daughter 12 years ago which carries the message: "Only you can write your best story, believe that there are no impossible dreams and don't be afraid to be happy."
