Athletic Club Women forward Ane Azkona has put pen to paper on a new contract which will keep her at the club until June 30, 2026.
The international attacker arrived at Lezama from Ardoi in the 2016/17 campaign and has scored 20 goals in 108 first-team appearances, 10 of them the last season.
Ane prefers to play out wide and is a footballer with a lot of character, pace, movement and goals.
"I feel the Club's commitment to the team and there have been important contract renewals to consolidate a strong group for the future. Furthermore, this is the club that gave me my First Division debut and I'm very happy to continue here for three more years," Ane said extending her stay at Athletic.
Azkona got off to a flying start and making her first appearance for the senior team on 5 November 2016, in an away league match against Levante UD. Her spell in the reserve team was particularly impressive. In the 2017-18 season, she scored 29 goals in the league and eight in the Basque Cup, and in the 2019-2020 campaign she joined the first team permanently.
Ane has struggled for form at times this season as a result of a knee injury that kept her sidelined for a couple of months. However, she did make a difference in our Copa quarter-final against CA Osasuna by scoring the first goal. Azkona, who has also represented Euskal Selekzioa, made her international debut for Spanish national team in Pamplona.
