Valverde: "There are six matches left and we're up there"

The gaffer praised his side for going to the end as they rescued a point in the dying seconds despite not being at their best level

After earning a vital point with a hard-fought 1-1 draw in Mallorca, Ernesto Valverde has insisted Athletic Club are where they need to be as we gear up for the final run-in.

Iñaki Williams rescued a draw at the death as he stepped up to put away a 94th-minute penalty with the final kick of the game.

"There are six matches left, this is difficult for us and for everyone, but we're there. We have to keep going and working hard," Valverde said post match.

Athletic were forced to suffer in Palma. In what was a tense and physical encounter, Korean international Lee Kang In put the hosts ahead in the 57th minute before a Raúl García shot hit Iñigo Ruiz de la Galarreta's arm in the box as the clock ran down.

Valverde said: "It took a last-minute goal. The other day we lost the game in a crazy final moment and today we equalised at the end. That's football, there's no logical explanation for it.

"Mallorca presented us with difficulties we couldn't solve. Even so, we never gave up and we went for the match from the start. You always have to fight until the end and, given the way the game was, I'm happy with the point."
