The gaffer's thoughts on Athletic's comprehensive win over RCD Mallorca at San Mames
Athletic Club head coach was impressed with the manner of Los Leones' win over RCD Mallorca on Friday night, saying it would provide a vital confidence boost before our Copa visit to Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.
Yuri Berchiche scored the first two goals before Gorka Guruzeta and Iker Muniain completed the rout in Bilbao.
"From our point of view it was a very complicated match. It certainly helps when you score a goal in the first move.It gives you a boost," Valverde said at his post-match press conference.
"After winning tonight, we can now focus on the upcoming Copa match."
Valverde's side have found remarkable consistency at home, winning six matches in a row at San Mames.
He said: "LaLiga puts you where you are and tells you who you are. It's a long-distance race in which you have to overcome different tests. Now we have the Copa and we have to go all out."
