Euskal Non-League Day 2024 arrives this weekend
86 Athletic affiliated clubs from all over the Basque Country are taking part in this initiative to promote attendance at local grounds
This weekend 86 Athletic-affiliated clubs will be taking part in the second edition of Euskal Non-League Day, an event designed to recognise their work producing players for Athletic Club and their importance to their local communities.
Under the slogan "Support local football!", we are encouraging all Athleticzales to attend matches at their most local ground.
With no LaLiga fixtures due to the international break, this is the perfect opportunity to promote grassroots football and champion our network of affiliated clubs.
Giveaways at Non-League Day fixtures
Fans attending Non-League Day matches will have the opportunity to participate in raffles organised by Athletic Club to encourage attendance at local grounds.
• Getafe CF vs Athletic Club (May 3/4/5/6, kick-off time to be confirmed): Double ticket, travel and accommodation for two with the men's first team for this match.
• Athletic Club vs Villarreal CF (Sunday April 14): Lions Experience double ticket. Includes VIP ring seats, welcome pack and chance to watch players arrive, warm-up on the pitch as well as a personal meeting with a Lion after the match.
• Athletic Club vs Villarreal CF: Double tickets in San Mamés' Lower South Stand. Separate raffles at each the ground of each participating club. The winner must be at the ground to receive their prize.
Furthermore, Athletic Club will giveaway a shirt signed by the entire men's first team, a shirt signed by the women's first team and two tickets for Athletic Club vs Villarreal CF among all those who share a photograph at a grassroots football match on 23 and 24 March using the hashtag #EuskalNonLeagueDay on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok or Facebook.
Euskal Non-League Day x Non-League Day UK
To strengthen our ties with Non-League Day UK, the originators of this initiative, Athletic has once again revived connection with past English rivals which now play non-league football, namely: Civil Service FC, United Hospitals FC, Eastbourne Town FC, Merton FC, Bromley FC, Dulwich Hamlet FC and Corinthian-Casuals FC.
In addition to forming a significant part of Athletic's early history, these amateur sides played a vital role in increasing football's popularity all over the world in the early 20th century.
Over the course of this week, we have have published a series of articles about each of the club's respective visit to Biscay. We have also sent each club an Athletic flag to hang up at their ground and a retro Zurigorri jersey to raffle off among their fans.
