Athletic has chosen three winning photos from a total of 978 entries capturing the historic celebrations of April 11
11 April 2024 was a historic day, an unforgettable event the Athleticzale family will never forget. 40 years after La Gabarra last set sail, Bilbao and Biscay showed the whole world the passion between Athletic Club and the fans it represents.
La Gabarra's journey down Bilbao's River Nervión gave us and football some of the most incredible images, showing everyone why we are 'Unique in the World'.
Athleticzales helped immortalise the day through the 978 beautiful snapshots which were sent to the club as part of our "Gabarra Day 2024 Photography Competition".
The judges had the most difficult task. All the photos received form part of a wider picture, each one capturing a different aspect of the day: wide shots featuring the entire flotilla, images of fans lining the river banks or watching from balconies, messages to those who have passed on, and a million emotions from joy to awe and everything in between.
The photos below were selected for the top three prizes.
